FINAL EXERCISE OF THE PAPER ARCHITECTURES AND SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS COURSE
Statement
The Campo das Cebolas is part of an urban grid inserted in the Lisbon mozarabic matrix which has undergone successive changes in its waterfront, in particular the extension of landfills for the construction of the South / Southeast River Station in 1932.
Located to the east of Praça do Comércio, this square has a trapezoidal implantation, having at north the bacalhoeiro road with the building of the casa dos Bicos and the Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição (the-old), which was once an important Synagogue. We can find also at the West limited by the building of the Ministry of finances and the former Lisbon Stock Exchange and the Middle Ancient Customs Lisbon, while South opens to the Navy Dock and the river Tagus
Currently in the Campo das Cebolas is a mischaracterized urban space in terms of usage, functioning as a place of transit or precarious parking.
The exercise now being proposed aims to rethink this space, restructuring it and giving it a proper identity in its urban unit and in temporal transversality surrounding buildings.
For this, the students should develop a proposal based on a consubstantiated at a concept of a new urban character rooted in sustainability use.
Proposal
The proposal will have to keep in mind the different techniques of folding made throughout the semester, and should prepare a program / concept, in order to give the space a remarkable experience, both for its unheard of visual field in Lisbon, as at the possibility of performing exception events, while respecting the most emblematic buildings of this space and the proposal should not limit the reading of these buildings.
The solution should be to present individually based on the following premisses:
Urban Concept
Integration with the preexistence
Sustainability
Originality
Proportion and Harmony
Used Folding techniques
Virtual model of the environment (by volume)

Scale model of the Proposal
